Oakmoss Absolute
Mossy, Green, Earthy, Woody
Oakmoss is a base note that forms the backbone of traditional chypre and fougère perfumes.
(Chypre, derived from the French word for Cyprus, is the origin of the perfume Chypre launched by Coty in 1917, with a green, fresh oakmoss scent, unlike other floral perfumes of the time.
Fougère, from the French word for fern, refers to a fragrance genre that captures the fresh and aromatic feel of fern plants.)
Oakmoss absolute is 100% natural and is in a thick paste state at room temperature.
Its scent combines a slightly smoky and leathery earthiness with moss, woody, and earthy notes.
Moreover, it is highly restricted in usage due to IFRA regulations, recommended only for olfactory training and educational purposes for its natural character.
Characteristics of CW Oakmoss Absolute
Oakmoss absolute is derived from the lichen of the Evernia Prunastri species of trees. When the lichen is first extracted with a non-polar solvent, it yields a deep green creamy oakmoss concrete. This concrete, when dissolved in ethanol, leaves behind only aromatic compounds. Oakmoss is harvested and collected mainly in the Balkan countries and Morocco worldwide. CW handles 100% natural absolute extracted from oakmoss collected in these regions and processed in Grasse, Southern France.
