Sandalwood Indian Woody, Sweet, Balsamic, Warm
Sandalwood, also known as 'Baekdanhyang' in Korean, is a very precious ingredient. It has been used since ancient times as an incense for spiritual preparation and for aromatherapy to achieve true inner peace. With a sweet, woody, and feminine scent, it can be used as a base note in very high-end perfumes.
The characteristics of CW Sandalwood Naturals The highest quality sandalwood is produced in the Mysore region of southern India (also known as East Indian Sandalwood). Essential oil starts to form inside the wood of the Santalum album tree after it reaches 25 years old, and it takes over 30 years for the aroma to be rich enough for harvest. The precious sandalwood oil is distributed throughout the roots, logs, and branches, and because it must be extracted as much as possible, the tree cannot be felled with a chainsaw. Loggers uproot the entire tree and then release termites to eat only the parts of the tree that do not contain oil, such as bark and leaves. The remaining wood is finely ground and distilled to obtain sandalwood oil. Since the 1980s, sandalwood has been designated as an endangered species, and the Indian government has restricted annual production. Since then, Australian and New Caledonian sandalwood have been used as substitutes, but they cannot surpass the quality of Indian sandalwood.
