Lime oil, Distilled

Fresh, Citrus, Sweet, Tart

It's the fresh lime scent that carries a sense of freshness, bitterness, and coolness.
It's known to boost immunity, energize,
and cleanse the mind with its clean citrus fragrance.

The characteristics of CW Lime Natural Essential Oil

Freshness, bitterness, and coolness.
The fresh lime fragrance of Mojitos, cocktails, eau de cologne, and cola.
Lime oil is produced by pressing or distilling the peel of fresh limes.
CW essential oil from the Citrus Aurantifolia species, also known as Key lime, primarily produced in Mexico.
There are two main varieties of lime used for oil production: Key lime and Persian lime.
Key limes are smaller with larger seeds compared to Persian limes,
and they contain a richer concentration of the compounds that define the aroma of lime oil.
Persian lime oil, on the other hand, contains relatively lower concentrations
of the key aromatic compounds compared to Key lime oil, resulting in a somewhat weaker and flatter scent.

Cold Expression vs Steam Distillation

Most citrus oils are produced using the cold pressing method, extracting the oil from the peel,
while lime oil is a prominent natural oil that offers two options: Cold Expression and Distillation.

Typically, distilled lime oil production outweighs cold expression in volume, and CW also handles distilled lime oil.
Cold Expression (Lime Expressed): Lime, known for its thin peel, makes it challenging to peel only the skin.
Hence, the fruit is rolled on spiked rollers to extract the oil from the peel.

Cold Expression oils tend to have higher amounts of α,β-pinenes, γ-terpinene, and Citral, resulting in a juicier lemony scent.
The extracted oil is very dark in color and contains photosensitive and non-volatile Furocoumarins.
Distillation (Lime Distilled): Historically, lime distillation was primarily a by-product of citric acid production.

Currently, steam distillation is commonly used to produce lime oil without the photosensitive compound Furocoumarin.
The scent of distilled lime oil is less sharp and tangy compared to cold-pressed oil, with relatively better longevity.
Lime expressed oil typically has a dark green color, while Lime Distilled oil is lighter, ranging from yellow to pale,
making it more preferred as a fragrance.
Lime Distilled oil contains higher amounts of Camphene, ρ-cymene, α-fenchol, Terpineols,
and Farnesene formed as a by-product of acid-catalyzed reactions during extraction,
enhancing the fresh, tangy aroma and flavor of lime peel.
Other differences include the usual distillation of fully ripe fruits and cold pressing of less ripe fruits for extraction.
