Orris Butter
Fatty, Violet, Earthy, Soapy
Orris is extremely rare and possesses a beautiful and noble fragrance.
Orris Butter, which is in a solid white state at room temperature, has a sweet fruity-violet note,
along with earthy, woody, and fatty aldehyde undertones giving it a soapy feel.
It adds depth to floral notes with its deep and rich base notes.
It also serves to amplify other fragrances.
The characteristics of CW Orris Butter
Orris refers to the roots of the iris plant, and by steam distilling the Orris root rhizomes, you can obtain Orris butter in a solid white state.
Solvent extraction of this produces Orris absolute, with Orris butter being the precursor to the absolute.
Compared to Orris absolute, Orris butter is more fatty and rich, with distinct notes of earthiness, creaminess, and fattiness.
The high price of Orris is due to the intensive labor required for its production and its low yield.
For instance, processing 1000 tons of Orris roots, after peeling, drying, and grinding, yields only 300 tons of powder.
From 1 ton of powder, only 2 kilograms of Orris concrete can be produced.
Moreover, it takes a minimum of several years for sufficient Irone (iron) to be generated, which begins to impart the rare fragrance of Orris.
