Tonka Bean Absolute
Sweet, Warm, Coumarin, Nutty
Tonka Bean has a very sweet and powdery fragrance with notes of vanilla and caramel.
It is a precious natural ingredient mainly used as a fixative in natural perfumes.
Before the invention of synthetic coumarin, tinctures of tonka beans were traditionally used as a base note to substitute vanilla.
However, tonka beans provide a richer and warmer scent than synthetic coumarin,
emitting notes of coconut flesh, sweet grass, and caramel.
It blends well with hay, oakmoss, lavender, clary sage, and bergamot to create coumarin-herbal accords.
The characteristics of CW Tonka Bean Absolute
Dipteryx Odorata is a tropical tree reaching about 30 meters in height, primarily found in Brazil and Venezuela. Once the beans fall from the tree, they are collected, the pulp is removed, and the beans are selected and soaked in alcohol for 12-24 hours. After removing the alcohol, the beans are dried, causing coumarin to crystallize on the surface, forming whitish powder. The beans are then coarsely ground, and the powder is extracted using solvents to produce the absolute. Tonka Bean Absolute does not dissolve well in alcohol, leaving partially insoluble substances at the bottom.
