Frankincense
Incense, Peppery, Spicy, Woody
Frankincense is considered the oldest fragrance in human history.
It has been used for thousands of years as a sacred incense in religious purification ceremonies.
It features a serene pine note with a slight lemony undertone, clean peppery (slightly spicy) fragrance, and resinous scent.
If making natural perfumes with Frankincense, we recommend using this scent as a middle note.
Characteristics of CW Frankincense Natural Essential Oil
Frankincense (Olibanum) is an exudate from the bushy plants growing in the vicinity of the Red Sea. When the tree or branches are wounded, the resin flows out from the trunk and hardens. Harvesters collect hardened Frankincense chunks, remove impurities, and then extract essential oil by steam distillation. Approximately 1kg of natural essential oil is obtained from about 20kg of tree resin. The resin collected from Somalia is transported to France for extraction. Also known as Olibanum.
