Characteristics of CW Cinnamon Bark Natural Essential Oil
Cinnamon is made from the bark of Cinnamomum cassia, C. zeylanica, and C. laureirii. The bark is steamed and cooled for a day before the outer bark is separated, making it ready for cinnamon oil extraction. When used in cooking, cinnamon enhances sweetness, making it a common ingredient in cakes and breads with high sugar content, and it pairs well with fruits to make cinnamon rolls and apple jam in Western cuisine. For beverages, cinnamon sticks are added to tea, coffee, punch, and wine. In Mexican white chocolate, it is an indispensable ingredient.
Cinnamon bark oil, more expensive than cinnamon leaf oil, is preferred for finished products like perfumes. Use only in very small quantities and avoid application on localized areas (creams, cosmetics, etc.) due to its high potency. The main component, cinnamic aldehyde, is relatively prone to oxidation. For prolonged use, refrigeration is recommended.
